Lorup Leads Troy on Day One of Golfweek Challenge

VAIL, Colo. -- True freshman Nicole Lorup continued the hot start to her collegiate career as she fired a 1-over 73 to lead Troy in Monday's opening round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge at Red Sky Golf Club. Troy is in 12thplace among an 18-team field that features numerous top programs.
Lorup, who finished third in the season opener, carded three birdies in Monday's opening round and flirted with a red number all day. Opening on the back nine, Lorup made the turn at 1-under but quickly moved back even with a bogey on No. 1. She finished with bogeys on the seventh and ninth around a birdie on the par-4 eighth.
Lindsey Harrison is just a shot behind her teammate in a tie for 27thplace following a 2-over 74 thanks to pair of birdies before making the turn. Sarah Harrison added three birdies of her own to rebound from a rocky stretch right after the turn, she ended the day strong with birdies on the fifth and sixth holes and sits tied for 47thplace at 4-over.
UCLA fired an 11-under 277 and holds a 9-shot advantage over Campbell, followed by Pepperdine, Denver and TCU. Troy sits just 10 shots back of TCU for fifth place and the Trojans are just six shots behind Georgia for eighth.
Judith Castro carded three birdies and is tied for 77thplace at 9-over, while Bianca Lohbauer added one birdie and is tied for 80thfollowing a 10-over 82.
The Trojans will once again open on the tenth tee in Tuesday's second round, Troy will play alongside Sacramento State and Nebraska beginning at 10 a.m.
