Tiffin Leads Troy to Fifth-Place Finish in Season Opener

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Jake Tiffin fired a 2-under in Tuesday's final round of the Sam Hall Intercollegiate to propel Troy to a fifth-place finish in the Trojans' season opener. Tiffin carded five birdies on the day to move into a tie for 10thplace overall.
A junior from Hartselle, Ala., Tiffin climbed nine spots up the leaderboard as he doubled his birdie tally from the opening two rounds. Troy finished tied for third in the field of 13 teams with 49 birdies over the three rounds and tied for first with a 3.05 average on the par 3 holes.
After entering the day tied for second, Connor Futrell slipped 11 spots into a tie for 13thplace after shooting 4-over on the day. Playing in his first collegiate tournament, freshman Will McFadden finished fourth in the field with 13 birdies and tied for 28thoverall at 4-over.
Tournament host Southern Miss pulled away on the final day to jump Mercer and win the team title by four shots. Missouri State was eight shots off the pace followed by Bowling Green and Troy.
Dean Martin fired a 5-over 76 on Tuesday and tied for 41stplace overall, while Eli Charron climbed 13 spots on the final day into a tie for 59thplace with an even-par 71. Playing as an individual, Bryson Bianco placed 70thfollowing a final round 75.
Troy will take a couple weeks off before heading to Baton Rouge, La., for the David Toms Intercollegiate hosted by LSU on Oct. 6-7.
