Troy Soccer Stumbles at Home

TROY, Alabama – The Troy soccer team took one on the chin Friday as Kennesaw State left the Troy Soccer Complex with a 3-1 victory.

The Owls (3-0-0) jumped out to an early two-goal lead. In the sixth minute, Erin Harris served in a low cross to Kendall Higgs, who simply tapped it past the Trojan keeper for the game's opening goal. Three minutes later, Harris intercepted an errant pass at the top of the penalty box and blistered a shot into the back of the net.

Troy (1-2-0) responded in the 14thminute to draw within a goal. Natalie Melillo's throw in led to a shot by Ally Bayer, but it was saved back into play. Nathali DaSilva attempted the put back clanking the shot off the post and into the path of Claire Taylor, who finished for her first career goal.

The Trojans owned the majority of the possession in the second have and created several good scoring chances, but could never break through again. Kennesaw State added its third goal in the 71stminute when Kameron Downs' shot deflected off a Trojan defender and sailed high into the air and over the goalkeeper's head.

UP NEXT
Troy looks to rebound with a 2 p.m. matchup against Chattanooga. The Mocs (2-1-0) enter the game following a 6-1 loss at South Alabama.

• Freshman Kate Eubanks saw her first action of the season, entering as a substitute and playing 37 minutes at center back.
