TROY, Alabama – Troy's outdoor track and field teams are set to make a quick road trip to compete in Auburn's Tiger Track Classic this weekend.
Â
The meet will include 22 teams from around the country – including conference rivals Arkansas State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Louisiana and South Alabama – and will kick off at 11:45 Friday morning.
Â
Last time out, the Trojan men and women brought home second and third-place finishes, respectively, from ECU's Bill Carson Invite. Riley Schwietz led the attack with an impressive win in the women's javelin throw – the senior will compete in the heptathlon this weekend.
Â
On the track, Casimir Tawiah took the gold in the 110-meter hurdles with the third-fastest time in school history – 14.21-seconds. Tawiah will not run the hurdles in Auburn, but instead will race in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes.
Â
Added to the individual success, the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay teams swept their events for Troy. The two teams will go for repeat titles to wrap up the Classic Saturday afternoon.
Â
Notable
• Five returning Trojans have NCAA postseason experience entering this year. Junior Hakim Montgomery has earned a trip in each of his first two seasons.
Â
• Troy indoor track and field placed fifth at the conference championships in February, tying for the highest finish in program history – finished fifth twice before.
Â
• No days off. The Trojans will compete in at least one meet each weekend from March 16 until the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships in San Marcos, Texas, May 11-13.
