Trojans Open Conference Play at Home

TROY, Alabama- Troy softball (13-6) looks to improve on a five-game winning streak as the Trojans host Georgia Southern (13-6) for the Sun Belt opener on Friday and Saturday, March 9 and 10. Friday's doubleheader is slated for 2 and 4 p.m., while first pitch on Saturday is set for noon. Game times were moved up due to heavy rain projected for this weekend.

Troy enters the weekend after going 5-0 at the D9 Citrus Classic in the last tournament of the season. The Trojans picked up hard-fought wins against FIU, UCSB, Fordham, Niagara and Binghamton.

Annie Willis was Troy's ace in the circle, throwing 13.0 innings, only allowing seven hits, no runs and striking out 15 batters. The freshman earned Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week for her stellar performance over the weekend. Junior Peyton Glover is 5-0 in the circle. Through 13 appearances, she leads the pitching staff with 42 strikeouts.

Offensively, sophomores Logan Calhoun and Katie Webb continue to propel the Trojans. Calhoun leads the Sun Belt with 18 runs scored and has also added 21 hits, one home run and eight RBI. Webb has posted a team-high three home runs this season and 14 RBI.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Georgia Southern enters the conference matchup also at 13-6 on the season. The Eagles are riding a three-game win streak after defeating Lipscomb and ETSU at the Lipscomb Purple and Gold Challenge and Detroit Mercy on Wednesday night. Senior Alesha Mann leads the squad at the plate with .345 average, 20 hits, four home runs and 12 RBI. Kierra Camp and Rylee Waldrep have been strong in the circle recording 12 of the 13 wins, 103.1 total innings and 68 total strikeouts.

NOTEWORTHY

The Trojan defense has gotten off to a hot start, posting the fifth best fielding percentage in the nation and the best in the Sun Belt (0.984). The Trojans are also eighth in the country with 0.63 double plays per game.
Peyton Glover ranks sixth in the nation and first in the conference with three saves so far this season, while she ranks third in the conference with 2.06 ERA, and seventh with 42 strikeouts
Annie Willis is the reigning Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week after throwing 15 strikeouts in 13.0 innings and finishing the weekend with 0.00 ERA.
Logan Calhoun leads the Sun Belt with 18 runs scored, while Katie Webb is tied for fourth in the league with 14 RBI and ninth with .542 slugging percentage. Webb also leads the Sun Belt turning nine double plays so far this season.
