Sophia Jenkins boosted the offense with two home runs on the day. Jenkins is the first Trojan since Taylor McKinney to hit a home run in consecutive games since Taylor McKinney did against Georgia State and UAB on Mar. 30 and Apr. 2, 2025.
Kalee Rochinski also blasted a home run in the nightcap against Auburn, her third of the season.
TROY 5, USC Upstate 13
The Trojans started the day with a 13-5 run-rule loss to USC Upstate. Nine runs in the last two innings boosted the Spartans to the victory.
Sophia Jenkins crushed a three-run homer in the second inning for Troy. Kiley Huffman also added an RBI single to finish off the five-run second inning for Troy.
The Spartans struck first, scoring two in the first inning off an error. However, the Trojans offense exploded to take the lead back in the second.
After Dailynn Motes got it started with a leadoff double, she came around to score on an Upstate error. Following a walk, Jenkins teed off on a pitch, sending it to straightaway center to give Troy a 4-2 lead.
The Trojans snagged a 5-2 lead thanks to an RBI single from Kiley Huffman. The Spartans scored two more in the second and knocked Abby Lovell out of the game, cutting Troy's lead to 5-4.
Both teams went scoreless in the third, and Upstate put pressure on the Trojans again in the fourth inning, loading the bases with no outs. The Spartans scored five runs in the frame to take a 9-5 lead. Upstate poured on four more runs to finish off the run-rule in the fifth.
TROY 4, Auburn 10
Troy fell to Auburn 10-4 to end the day. Homers from Sophia Jenkins and Kalee Rochinski weren't enough to keep the Trojans in the ballgame, and the Tigers beat Troy for the second time in as many days.
Jenkins hit her fifth home run of the season after going yard earlier in the day, and Rochinski crushed her third of the year to left field. Amity White finished the night 2-for-3, smoking a double to center field and earning her first multi-hit game of the year.
Both pitchers spun scoreless first innings, with Ames getting out of the first in part due to a leaping catch from Presley Ivey.
Auburn got on the board first in the second inning, scoring first on a bases-loaded walk and then a grand slam to make it 5-0.
Jenkins' second home run of the day made it 5-1 in the third inning. She became the first Trojan to hit a home run in consecutive games since Taylor McKinney did against Georgia State and UAB on Mar. 30 and Apr. 2, 2025.
Auburn tacked on six more in the third inning to extend the lead to 10-1. In the fourth inning, the Trojans added another home run as Rochinski beamed a two-run shot off the light pole in left field.
The Trojans created more trouble, cutting the deficit to 10-4 off an error and loading the bases with one out. However, Troy couldn't score any more in the inning.
Emma Banks held Auburn scoreless in the fourth. Amity White crushed a double to center field in the top of the fifth, but the Trojans couldn't push the run across.
With the bases loaded and one out, Banks forced the 5-2 double play to keep the score at 10-4. Troy couldn't cut into the lead in the sixth, but another double play turned by Boswell got the Trojans to the seventh inning. However, Troy couldn't come back in the final inning.
Quotable: Head Coach Eric Newell
"It was a tough one today for sure with a couple of hard losses. It's not something we enjoy, especially with the hot start we got at the beginning of the season. But there's a lot of stuff we can take away from today's games and work on in practice to continue striving to get better."
