TROY, Alabama – Troy outdoor track and field is headed to Gainesville, where it will compete in the prestigious Florida Relays Thursday through Saturday at Pearcy Beard Track.
Â
Select portions of the meet will be broadcast live on SEC Network + on Friday and Saturday. The meet itself will play host to 102 universities from across the country; including 11 nationally-ranked programs.
Â
Last time out, the Trojans put on a dominating performance and brought home eight event wins from the Alabama Track Challenge in Birmingham.
Â
The biggest performance of the day came from thrower Indiya Summerville, who set a new school record with a 14.78-meter shot put throw. She now owns the top spot on Troy's indoor and outdoor record list in the shot put.
Â
Michael Alvernaz and Titus Sizemore each posted new personal bests in the hammer throw and high jump, respectively – Alvernaz threw out to 62.25 meters and Sizemore leaped 2.10 meters.
Â
Quotable – Troy director Marc Davis
"We are looking to come out of this with some great performances most importantly. We want to have solid performances at the conference meet, and in order to do that we have to step up on a stage like this. Secondly, we are making sure those who will make the NCAA meet will be ready for this level of competition. We have a chance to send our biggest contingent yet to the NCAA 1st Round. We are a talented bunch that are capable of getting marks that will get them there early in the season. I am excited to see them perform."
Â
Notable
• Five returning Trojans have NCAA postseason experience entering this year. Junior Hakim Montgomery has earned a trip in each of his first two seasons.
Â
• Troy indoor track and field placed fifth at the conference championships in February, tying for the highest finish in program history – finished fifth twice before.
Â
• No days off. The Trojans will compete in at least one meet each weekend from now until the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships in San Marcos, Texas, May 11-13.
