Final Results
GAINESVILLE – Troy outdoor track and field returns from the prestigious Florida Relays with a lot to be pleased with, including six top eight finishes amongst some of the nation's top track and field teams.
Â
Michael Alvernaz finished second in the hammer throw with a new personal-best 63.09-meter throw. The throw was good enough for second on Troy's all-time record list, as well.
Â
The men's 4x400-meter relay team got off to a hot start by earning the top seed in its finals with a preliminary run of 3:09.50 before falling to fifth in the final race. Meanwhile, the women's 1600-meter sprint medley team was able to come away with a sixth-place finish in its respective event.
Â
The remainder of the Trojans' success came from the field, where Jaevyn Wortham, Jordan Poole and Titus Sizemore each came through with a top eight finish. Wortham threw the discus 46.63 meters to earn seventh, Poole launched the shot put 15.89 meters for seventh and Sizemore hopped 2.01 meters in the high jump to place eighth.
Â
Up next, Troy will head to Greenville, N.C., for the Bill Carson Invitational hosted by East Carolina.
Notable
• Five returning Trojans have NCAA postseason experience entering this year. Junior Hakim Montgomery has earned a trip in each of his first two seasons.
Â
• Troy indoor track and field placed fifth at the conference championships in February, tying for the highest finish in program history – finished fifth twice before.
Â
• No days off. The Trojans will compete in at least one meet each weekend from now until the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships in San Marcos, Texas, May 11-13.
