TROY, Alabama – A busy stretch of the spring continues for the Troy women's golf team as the Trojans head to Kennesaw, Ga., for the Henssler Financial Intercollegiate at the Pinetree Country Club – teams will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday.
The second of four tournaments in less than a month's time for the Trojans, the Henssler Financial pits Troy against an 11-team field that features a trio of top-50 teams, including No. 19 Kent State.
Troy closed out the 3M Augusta Invitational last weekend with its fifth-best round of the season and also had its 10th-best round of the year in the event. Bianca Lohbauer led the Trojans as she finished in 33rd place, her third top finish in six events this season.
"We really had a poor putting week last week," head coach Randy Keck said. "We hit the golf ball well enough to really play well but putted as poorly as I've ever seen a team putt. So, we spent our week working on putting. We did a lot of putting drills and they have gotten a lot of confidence. We also made some equipment changes that I feel like will benefit us and give us a little more forgiveness."
Sarah Harrison, who has led the Trojans in the three other events, enters Troy's seventh tournament of the season with a team-best 75.88 scoring average on the season and is tied with Lohbauer with a pair of rounds under par. Lohbauer is close behind Harrison with a 76.88 average for the year, but has opened the spring with a 74.75 mark over four rounds.
Eva Fabricius-Bjerre continued her steady play last week as all three of her rounds counted towards the team card. She is tied with Harrison for the team lead with 15-of-16 rounds counting this season, while her 77.38 average ranks third.
"This is a good drivers' golf course," Keck said. "It is a narrow golf course and you really have to pick good lines off the tee. The greens are very puttable, there are going to be a lot of makeable putts and the speed of the greens are going to be similar to what we've been practicing on. Because we are a pretty good ball striking team, I think we have a good opportunity this week to play well."
Lindsey Harrison checks in fourth on the team with a 77.81 average for the year and is tied for second on the team with her opening round scoring average, and Antonia Poate has an 80.06 mark for the year. Bria Jansen will make her second appearance of the season and first since the season opener as she will play as an individual.
The Field
Kennesaw State, Kent State, Delaware, Virginia Tech, Troy, Ole Miss, Eastern Michigan, Georgia Southern, Augusta, UNCG and Coastal Carolina
