No. 14 Florida State Takes Two from Troy

TALLAHASSEE, Florida- Troy (17-12) posted 13 hits on the day, but it was no match for No. 14 Florida State's high-octane offense as the Seminoles defeated the Trojans in both games of the doubleheader on Wednesday night at the Seminole Softball Complex.

Game one: Florida State 12, Troy 2
The long ball powered the Seminoles (23-6) over Troy in game one as eight of their 12 runs came across as a product of hits that cleared the fence. Three different Seminoles blasted a home run, one solo shot, two, two-run balls and a three-run home run to end the game.

FSU plated the first run of the game with a solo home run from freshman Elizabeth Mason in the bottom of the second inning. Cassidy Davis followed in the fourth inning with her first homer of the day, Â two-run home run and ended the game with a three-run shot in the sixth. Freshman Sydney Sherrill hit the third of the game in the bottom of the fifth.

Troy got on the board with a walk from Katie Webb in the bottom of the third and a double into right field from Stephanie Snyder. With two on and just one out, Madeline Porter drove a ball up the middle scoring both runners as the Triojans took a 2-1 lead.

Troy continued to get runners on base, but left six stranded as the Trojans could no plate anymore runs in the game.

Porter led the team at the plate going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Peyton Glover made her 10th start in the circle and threw 5.1 innings before freshman Kynsley Rae Blasingame entered as relief. The loss moves Glover to 6-3 on the year.

Game two: Florida State 9, Troy 1
Kaylee Hussey went 2-for-2 in the second game of the night as both hits went for extra bases. She blasted her first home run of the season to plate Troy's lone run in the final game of the doubleheader.

Florida State's first run came across in the home half of the first inning on a bases-loaded walk, but the Trojans proved why they have one of the best defenses in the country as they got out of the jam with a clutch 5-3 double play to end the threat.

Florida State continued its offensive production with back-to-back three-run innings in the third and fourth innings.
Â
Three pitchers made an appearance in game two, but it was freshman Annie Willis that made the start. Although she gave up four runs, she also threw three strikeouts in just 3.0 innings of work.

UP NEXT
After a seven-game road swing, the Trojans will return home to host No. 21 UL Lafayette on Saturday and Sunday, March 24 and 25. Saturday's doubleheader iss et for 1 and 3 p.m., and Sunday's finale will begin at noon. All three games will be streamed on ESPN3.

- Calhoun improved on her hitting and reached base streak, now at 17 for both categories, the highest streak of her career.
