Men's Golf Rides Hot Start to Solid Round at Linger Longer

EATONTON, Georgia – Troy made the turn at 4-under in Monday's second round of the Linger Longer Invitational and finished with a 6-over 294 as the Trojans moved up a spot into 12th place with 18 holes to play.
Mac Murphy and Connor Futrell continued to pace the Trojans as the pair both finished even on the day. Murphy, who is tied for 26th place, made the turn at 3-under with a trio of birdies on holes 10 thru 18. He ran into trouble on the back nine with three bogeys and a double-bogey but balanced his card with birdies on No. 6 and No. 8.
Futrell also had five birdies on Monday with three before the turn and two after. He stayed out of major trouble with no big numbers and just five bogeys, he is tied for 42nd place. Dean Martin climbed into a tie for 50th place as he turned in a card of 1-over thanks to three birdies, all before the turn.
Calum Masters and Ike Alexander both turned in cards of 5-over for the Trojans on Monday. Masters had one birdie in the round and sits tied for 65th, while Alexander is tied for 74th place.
Troy ranks sixth in the field with 34 birdies through the opening two rounds led by Murphy's 10 which is tied for the fifth most by an individual in the field.
Georgia will carry a 1-shot lead over No. 8 Alabama and a 9-shot advantage over No. 45 Penn State into Tuesday' final round. Troy plays the final round with two teams its chasing in the standings – Middle Tennessee & Kennesaw State – beginning at 7:30 a.m. (CT).
