Murphy Leads Troy in Round One of Linger Longer

EATONTON, Georgia – Troy carded 20 birdies as a team led by five each from Mac Murphy, Dean Martin and Calum Masters in Sunday's opening round of the Linger Longer Invitational at the Grand Waters Golf Course. The Trojans are tied for 13^th place overall but find themselves just nine shots out of sixth place.

Coming off his best event of the season two weeks ago at Auburn, Murphy paced the Trojans with an even-par 72 on Sunday. He made the turn 1-under thanks to a trio of birdies and added two more on the back nine, but back-to-back bogeys to end the day pushed his card back even; he is tied for 30^th place.

Masters had a flurry of birdies around the turn as he went under par on three of his final five holes before the break and then added another on his 10^th hole of the day. He shot 1-over in the round and is tied for 40^th place.

Martin and Connor Futrell both turned in cards of 3-over 75 to sit tied for 60^th place and Ike Alexander shot 5-over and is tied for 75^th place. Martin made the turn at 4-over par but made a charge with four birdies over a five-hole stretch after the turn to get back even. However, a double and a bogey pushed him back to 3-over.

Georgia holds a 5-shot lead over No. 8 Alabama, while No. 45 Penn State, Ohio State and Chattanooga round out the top five.

Troy, Charlotte and Akron will comprise the second wave of teams off the 10^th hole for Monday's second round with the free threesome due at the tee box at 9:20 a.m. (CT).
