GAINESVILLE, Florida – The Troy men's golf team wrapped up play at the Gator Invitational on Sunday afternoon as the Trojans finished in 16th place. Dean Martin fired a 1-over 71 to lead Troy at the Mark Bostick Golf Course while Ike Alexander and Calum Masters carded a 74.
Starting on No. 10, Martin made the turn at 1-under after three birdies and two bogeys over his first nine holes. He held in the red until a bogey on No. 5 and No. 8 pushed his card into the black; he finished tied for 68th place overall.
Masters had opposite fortunes on Sunday as he opened at 5-over before playing the back nine at 1-under with birdies on No. 2 and No. 9, while Alexander had one birdie in his round. Alexander tied for 73rd place overall and Masters finished two shots back of his teammate in a tie for 81st place.
No. 5 Vanderbilt edged out host No. 6 Florida by nine shots to claim the team title, while South Florida, North Florida and UCF rounded out the top five.
Jake Tiffin carded an 8-over 78 on Sunday and tied for 86th place overall, while Fannar Ingi Steingrimmson shot a 79 and placed 90th.
Troy returns to the state of Florida next weekend for the Seminole Intercollegiate hosted by Florida State on Saturday and Sunday.
