Troy Indoor Begins 2019 Season

TROY, Ala. – Troy indoor track and field is set to compete in the Birmingham-Southern College Panther Indoor Icebreaker in Birmingham Friday. It marks the earliest start in the recorded history of the program.

In 2017, the Trojans turned in a record-breaking indoor season; highlighted by tying the highest finish in school history at the Sun Belt Championships last February. Led by Indiya Summerville's gold in the women's shot put, the squad finished fifth – tying the 2008 and 2010 teams.

Summerville and fellow thrower Jaevyn Wortham, two of the leaders on last year's squad, will kick off their senior seasons with top seeds in the shot put and weight throw events, respectively.

Now with a full year of competition under her belt, Troy will look to Precious Ogba – the 2018 Sun Belt Outdoor Freshman of the Year – on the track. Ogba will race in the women's 400-meter dash set for 7:20 p.m.
