Track and Field Dominates BSC Icebreaker

Final Results
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The men won the meet while the women finished second as Troy indoor track and field opened its season earlier than ever before at the BSC Panther Indoor Icebreaker at the Birmingham CrossPlex Friday.
Tallying 73 and 89 points respectively, the men and women brought home 10 golds – five apiece – in dominating fashion.
Last year's stars shined again; 2018 Sun Belt Newcomer and Freshman of the Year Jared Hayes won the 200m, Titus Sizemore topped the competition with a school record 2.15m high jump, the 4x400m relay team won its event and Amir Harris was the runner-up in the 400m dash.
Also winning their respective events were Casimir Tawiah in the 60m hurdles and Caleb Brown in the weight throw – Tawiah was .01 off the school indoor record.
The women's team flexed its muscles more so on the field side of the meet with wins by Brittany Trawick in the long jump, Indiya Summerville in the shot put and Jaevyn Wortham in the weight throw – newcomer Samara Nelson claimed second behind Summerville in the shot put.
On the track, Gemma Finch won the 800m and the 4x400m relay team claimed first in its event, as well. 2018 Sun Belt Outdoor Women's Freshman of the Year Precious Ogba was the runner-up in her first race of the 2019 season, the 400m dash.
