Troy Cruises Past Samford; Rigby Wins 100th as a Trojan

TROY, Alabama – Chanda Rigby won her 100^thgame as Troy's head coach and Sky'Lynn Holmes posted her sixth double-double as the Trojans rolled Samford, 72-52, in Trojan Arena on Monday.

The Trojans (1-1) have now won 43 of the last 53 games on their home court and snapped a three-game skid against the Bulldogs (1-2). Troy led by as many as 23 and posted 23 offensive rebounds that resulted in 23 second-chance points.

Holmes led all players with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting and 10 rebounds to go along with three steals. Amber Rivers posted 11 points, while 12 different players scored in the game. All 13 players that played in the game registers at least 12 minutes with Holmes leading the way with 22.

After a shaky start, the Trojans shot 50 percent on the second quarter and opened up an 18-point lead before the Bulldogs closed the gap to 11 before the break. Troy controlled the boards out-rebounded Samford 50-34 and turned the ball over just 10 times, while forcing 19 Bulldog miscues.

QUOTABLE
"It's a really good step to come out and beat Samford," head coach Chanda Rigby said. "They are a good, disciplined team and that's what we tried to do tonight, be disciplined. We stayed in control on defense and did some smart things on offense. I like the fact that we played really intelligent basketball."

UP NEXT
Troy remains at home and hosts Tennessee State on Friday at 12 p.m. Admission to the game is free. The Trojans defeated the Tigers, 95-66, last season.
