Troy Tennis Travels to ITA Regionals

Troy, AL - Troy men's tennis will travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to take part in ITA Regionals tournament Thursday through Saturday. The tournament is set to last for three days with singles and doubles brackets.
13 teams are participating in the tournament including: Alabama, Auburn, Jacksonville State, Louisiana, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Troy, Tulane, and UAB. 24 main players will be in the main draw, and eight will be added through qualifying.
Coach Rolando Vargas will take sophomores Jorge Poyatos and Pelayo Antuna along with senior Jiaqi Duan. Antuna and Duan will see action in doubles and singles, while Poyatos will be competing only in the singles bracket. Pelayo has a first round bye in the singles bracket, but will face UAB's Fernando Vargas in the second round. Jiaqi Duan will face Chung Han Tsai from Southern Miss and Jorge Poyatos will begin his journey against Aljaz Kaplja from Jacksonville State.
Pelayo Antuna, who won the singles tournament at Chattanooga Invitational, will be expected to lead the team in singles and doubles play. The sophomore skipped Mercer Gridiron Classic, where Jiaqi Duan won two single games and Jorge Poyatos pulled a win off against Fernando Guardia in a three-set thriller.
