TROY, Alabama – Troy jumped out to an early lead, but conceded four times in a 4-1 loss to No. 16 Florida State at the Troy Soccer Complex on Wednesday.
Nicole Strahl put Troy (2-5-2) ahead at the 12:24 mark when she headed in a goal off a corner from Kiersten Edlund; it marked the first time in three tries that the Trojans have led a ranked opponent.
Florida State (5-1) responded three minutes later scoring three times in a 4:34 span. Deyna Castellanos recorded two goals – including the Seminoles fourth of the day in the 89th minute – and turned in an assist. FSU tied the game when Castellanos scored from the penalty spot on a pass from Clara Robbins. The Seminoles then took the lead on a goal by Olivia Bergau when a cross was deflected into her path in the box.
Troy had another chance on goal in the second half when Maddie Brune put a header on frame, but it was saved by the Florida State keeper. FSU outshot the Trojans 17-2 in the game.
