Trojans Open SBC Play on Friday

TROY, Alabama – The Troy soccer team opens Sun Belt Conference play on Friday against ULM at the Troy Soccer Complex. The game is set for a 7 p.m. start.

The contest is also Troy's Go4theGoal Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer game in which both teams will wear gold laces to help raise funds and awareness for kids with cancer. Funds raised benefit Go4theGoal's programs, which support pediatric cancer patients, their families as well as hospitals and researchers nationwide. The Trojans (2-5-2) fell to No. 16 Florida State on Wednesday, 4-1, after taking an early lead on a header by Nicole Strahl in the 13^th minute. ULM (0-7-1) dropped its first seven games before earning a draw against Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday.

Then-freshman Qarli Stone put the Trojans on top in the 20^th minute when she dribbled through the defense and beat the ULM keeper to the far post. After the Warhawks responded three minutes later, Alison Watkins landed her first career goal to give Troy a 2-1 advantage. ULM evened the game just before halftime, then found the game-winner in the 49^th minute.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
ULM has gotten off to a rough start in 2017 dropping seven of eight games and are one of 18 winless teams in the NCAA, though the team did earn a 1-1 draw against Southeastern Louisiana in its last outing on Sunday.

NOTEWORTHY
• Troy has won four straight against ULM at home with the last loss coming in 2007.

• The Trojans are second in the Sun Belt with 14 goals of the season. Troy has the gotten scoring production from 10 different players including Julia Winter, who leads the squad with three goals.
