Troy Cross Country Opens Season; Sun Belt Preseason Polls Released

OXFORD, Alabama – The Sun Belt Preseason Polls were announced on Thursday on the eve of Troy's trip to Oxford, Ala. to race in the JSU Cross Country Season Opener to kick off the 2017 season.

This will mark the third consecutive season in which the Trojans have opened up the year at the JSU Season Opener. The men's team took home second place last season while the women placed seventh.

It will be a 5k event for the men while the women will be racing in the 4k. The course is flat and will be wheel measured and well marked. It is entirely on grass with two short bridges

Timing will be provided by Exact Timing with on-site results upon the conclusion of each race. Troy will compete in the Red Division against Alabama, Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Chattanooga, Florida A&M, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State and Samford.

Troy received 26 points in the preseason poll to rank ninth on the men's side and 40 points for the women's team for 10th place. UTA was selected as the preseason favorite to win the men's cross country championship while Appalachian State was picked to win on the women's end.
NOTEWORTHY
•  The men's team will return a deep crew as there are no seniors on the roster. Troy will be led by Daniel Glick, Brennan Garriques, Ryan DeGale and Bradley Dixon, who all had top-50 finishes at last year's Sun Belt Championship as sophomores.

• The women's team will also have youth as four freshman and two redshirt freshman will be making their Trojan debuts. Troy will feature Erika Kulp, Naomi Sheppard and Sara Zylstra as the three seniors this year.
