Troy Set for Pair of Weekend Matches

TROY, Ala. – Coming off a 2-0 win over Alabama State on Tuesday, the Troy soccer team is set for a pair of weekend matches beginning with a home tilt against Murray State on Friday before hitting the road to face Jackson State on Sunday.
The Trojans (1-2) got goals from Qarli Stone and Julia Winter on Tuesday to earn the team's first victory of 2017 and the first under head coach Ged O'Connor. Haley Roberson was nearly unstoppable in the match earning assists on both goals.
Freshman goalkeeper Katrine Jacobsen made her first career appearance and earned the shutout manning the posts for the entire 90 minutes. Troy has started a different goalkeeper in each of its first three games.

Murray opened the year with a commanding victory over visiting Marshall, sending the Thundering Herd back to West Virginia with a 2-0 loss.
Harriet Withers, the sole source of offense, scoring at the 51st and 87th minute marks to give the Racers their first goals of the season.
Alex Steigerwald picked up her first clean sheet of the year, only having to make three saves in her 2017 debut. Steigerwald now stands tied second all-time in Racers history with her 12 career clean sheets. (goracers.com)
JACKSON STATE (0-2)
The Jackson State women's soccer team opened up the home slate of its 2017 schedule against the UAB Blazers. Although the Lady Tigers fought hard, JSU fell 5-0 at the JSU Soccer Complex Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Tigers struggled a bit offensively. Collectively JSU attempted four shots, with only three on goal, but couldn't put any in the net. However, defensively Faith Tiennies led JSU as she posted another match high with 16 saves. (gojsutigers.com)
NOTEWORTHY
• Friday will mark the second home match of the year for the Trojans. After the season-opening loss to Mercer, Troy is now 23-4-2 at the Troy Soccer Complex over its last 29 home matches.
• Against Alabama State on Tuesday, five freshmen started for the Trojans.
• Troy has never allowed a goal in the three all-time meetings against Jackson State. The Trojans have outscored the Tigers 22-0 in those matches.
