And They’re Off: Troy Soccer Opens at Home

TROY, Alabama – The Troy soccer team opens the 2017 regular season on Friday at 7 p.m. against Mercer at the Troy Soccer Complex. Admission to the game is FREE.
The Trojans took on South Florida in an exhibition game last week, falling 2-0. Troy held the Bulls to just three shots in the first half, but two of them found the back of the net. Overall, 21 players saw the field for Troy.
Sixteen letterwinners return for the Trojans joining 10 newcomers under first year head coach Ged O'Connor. Haley Roberson, who was named Preseason All-Sun Belt, and Mikki Lewis are the lone seniors on a young but talented side.

The Troy soccer team did not allow a shot on goal, but also failed to score as the Trojans and Mercer tied, 0-0, after double overtime. Brooke McKee led the Trojans with six shots while Abby Reynolds added four. As a team, the Trojans attempted 15 shots and 15 corners.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Mercer returns five starters from a 2016 squad that finished 10-9-1 overall and 6-3-0 in Southern Conference play, finishing third in the league.
