Troy Outdoor Set to Compete in Sun Belt Championships

TROY, Alabama – Troy outdoor track and field is headed to Arlington, Texas, for the 2017 Sun Belt Outdoor Championships; the meet will begin Friday and continue through Sunday.

Zach Douglas, who enters the meet ranking second in the league in the shot put, will look to defend his conference title from last season – he also holds the second place ranking in the discus throw. Michael Alvernaz is in a strong scoring position, as well, looking to improve his current third place ranking in the conference. Connor Brookman will be competing in the javelin, looking to score some points for the Trojans. Titus Sizemore comes in to the meet ranked fourth in the Sun Belt in the high jump, while Myles Charley enters the championships with the conference's top ranking in the long jump and the seventh ranking in the triple jump.

Hakim Montgomery aims to score major points in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash events – he will also compete on the men's 4x100-meter relay team. The 4x100-meter relay team enters ranking second in the conference and will compete to improve that ranking by just one spot to claim the Sun Belt title. John Webb (800-meter run), Garrison Floyd (110-meter hurdles), Jovan Brown (400-meter hurdles) and Daniel Glick (3000-meter steeplechase) also look to come away with points for the Trojans.

Niata Alexander will compete in the 400-meter dash and the 200-meter dash, where she currently ranks third and fifth in the league, respectively. Gemma Finch and Tiarra Bailey are both in scoring positions in the 800-meter run as well. The women's 4x100-meter relay team will enter the meet ranked fourth; the 4x400-meter relay in third.

In the field, Allison Taylor and Helga Volgyi will compete in the hammer throw, while Riley Schwietz, Aleeah Stigarll and Elizabeth Locklier will compete in the heptathlon will feature Riley Schwietz, Aleeah Stigarll and Elizabeth Locklier. Rounding out the competitors, Corina Wieser-Cox will enter the discus throw ranked third in her final Sun Belt Conference Championship.Â
