Baseball Hosts Alabama Tuesday; Travels to Tide Wednesday

TROY, Alabama – Riddle-Pace Field will be the place to be Tuesday evening as Troy plays host to Alabama in the front end of a mid-week home-and-home between the two clubs; the Trojans travel to Tuscaloosa on Wednesday. First pitch for both games is scheduled for 6 p.m. and both will be broadcast on WatchESPN.

Tickets are still available for Tuesday night's game and can be purchased in advance by CLICKING HERE or by calling 877-878-WINS. The game between Troy and Alabama last season at Riddle-Pace Field drew a stadium record crowd of 3,243 fans. Troy men's basketball head coach Phil Cunningham will throw out the first pitch after leading the Trojans to a Sun Belt title and a trip to March Madness.

Troy (14-12) ended its Sun Belt series at UT Arlington in thrilling fashion on Saturday as the Trojans scored nine runs over the game's final two innings to defeat the Mavericks 13-5.

Justin Friend and Matt Sanders paced the Trojans offensively over the weekend as they hit .545 and .429, respectively. Friend finished the week with a 1.310 OPS to go along with a pair of doubles, while Sanders drove in five runs with a double, a triple and a 1.110 OPS.

The Trojans will turn to junior right-hander Corey Childress (2-2, 5.75) to start Tuesday's contest. Troy's Opening Day starter, Childress has made eight straight appearances out of the bullpen, including two scoreless innings at UTA on Sunday.

Senior right-hander Houston Mabray (1-1, 4.70) will get the call on the mound for Wednesday's game. Mabray has started six games on the year with his last outing coming at Samford on March 22.

The series between the two schools has been tight when played in Troy as Alabama holds a slim 4-3 advantage after escaping with a 2-1 victory last season; the Trojans have won three of the last four games against the Crimson Tide at Riddle-Pace Field.

Alabama (13-15) has lost five of its last six games entering the mid-week series, including SEC series setbacks to Arkansas and South Carolina – the Crimson Tide are 3-3 in mid-week games this season.

Troy native Chandler Avant leads Alabama with a .319 batting average and nine doubles, while Cody Henry has a team-leading five home runs.

Alabama will send freshman right-hander Decan Medders (0-0, 0.87) to the mound in the opener. He threw 3.2 innings and allowed five hits in relief against Arkansas over the weekend and shutout UAB over four innings two weeks ago. The Crimson Tide have not announced their Wednesday starter.
