Troy Takes on Arkansas State in Sun Belt Quarterfinal

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – The Troy women's basketball team will face a familiar foe in the quarterfinal of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Thursday. The third-seeded Trojans square off against No. 11 Arkansas State at 7:30 p.m. in Lakefront Arena.

In the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, Troy has played Arkansas State and South Alabama three times each, more than any other league opponent. The Trojans are 1-2 against ASU all-time in the tournament, but swept the Red Wolves in the regular season series.

Troy enters the tournament as the reigning champions. The Trojans were the No. 4 seed last season and defeated No. 5 South Alabama, No. 1 Arkansas State, and No. 2 Little Rock en route to the title. Troy (19-10) is vying for 20 wins in three consecutive seasons for the first time in program history.

Arkansas State (7-24) stayed alive in the Sun Belt Tournament with a 61-54 win over Georgia Southern on Tuesday; it marked the fourth consecutive year that the Red Wolves have won a tournament game. Freshman Jada Ford scored 23 points while fellow frosh Starr Taylor added 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
