Troy Baseball Hits the Road to Continue Sun Belt Action

TROY, Alabama – The conference portion of Troy's 2017 campaign will resume with a three-game set at UT Arlington this weekend. First pitch for the opener is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday, followed by start times at 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.

The Trojans (13-10, 3-3 Sun Belt) dropped two-of-three to No. 15 UL Lafayette last weekend in front of the home crowd at Riddle-Pace Field. The attention now turns to winning their first ever series with the Mavericks – who joined the league in 2014.

Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week, Austin Crook, will take the mound in Saturday's contest for Troy. Crook (4-0, 2.15) struck out 14 in the 7-5 victory over the Cajuns in a career-high 8.2 innings of work. It was the most strikeouts by a Troy pitcher since Grant Bennett fanned 14 against Georgia Southern in 2015.

Daren Osby (4-1, 3.09) and Andrew Crane (0-0, 2.51) will handle duties on the mound Friday and Sunday, respectively, for the Trojans – who rank second in the conference in team ERA.

Brandon Lockridge comes in to the series having reached base safely in 23 straight games – every competition this season – and has hit safely in 21 of those 23. He currently leads the team in batting average (.354) and doubles (9), while sharing the lead for RBIs with Justin Friend at 16.Â

UT Arlington (12-14, 3-3 Sun Belt) is led offensively by Will Olson with a .356 batting average, which is the third best in the league. The Mavericks currently sit at third in the team ERA category – one spot behind Troy – and will send three righties to the mound in the series.
