UT Arlington Takes Game Two; Series from Troy

ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington downed Troy, 5-2, to sweep the doubleheader and clinch the series victory Friday night at Clay Gould Ballpark.

Three unearned runs on three errors plagued the Trojans (13-12, 3-5) and proved to be the difference in the ballgame.
Â
Brandon Lockridge was the only Trojan to deliver multiple hits – ending 2-for-4 – while the only extra-base hit was an RBI double by Trevor Davis in the fourth. Chase Smartt followed with an RBI single of his own to cap the scoring for Troy.

Andrew Crane (0-1) allowed five runs – two earned – on five hits without allowing a walk in 4.2 innings to suffer the loss in his first career start.

Omar Salinas led the Mavericks (14-14, 5-3) as they extended their winning streak over Troy to four games. Salinas drove in three runs – with the bulk coming on a two-run blast in the fifth inning.

UT Arlington's Trae Patterson (2-2) scattered two runs on seven hits in seven innings to even up his record with the win. Closer Daniel James earned his second save of the day – fifth of the season – once again sending the Trojans down in order in the ninth.

"We didn't play very well, but we'll have to bounce back tomorrow and play better baseball," Troy head coach Mark Smartt said. "We had to swim upstream the whole day after the mistakes. Our backs are against the wall now for game three tomorrow."
