Track and Field Heads to Pepsi Florida Relays

TROY, Alabama – Troy outdoor track and field makes the next stop on their 2017 campaign at the Pepsi Florida Relays Thursday through Saturday. The three-day meet is one of the premier collegiate and high school meets in the country and plays host to some of the best athletes across the nation.

The 200-meter dash will kick off the competition for Troy on Thursday afternoon. The women's event will feature Gabrielle Henderson, Sierra King, and Sydney Wright; with Tyree Reed and Juvon Treasure competing in the men's event. Michael Alvernaz will start off the field events for Troy, taking part in the hammer throw followed by Sawyer Sprung finishing up the competition, running in the 5000-meter run.

Alison Taylor and Helga Volgyi will compete alongside one another in the women's hammer throw event on Friday, with both aiming to continue their early season success. Myles Charley will represent the men in the jumps as well, looking to improve his mark in the long jump. Corina Wieser-Cox will be throwing the discus in the invite section of the competition, throwing against some of the nation's best discus throwers.

Hakim Montgomery will run the 100-meter dash against stiff competition – his first 100-meter race since competing in the World Junior Championship in Poland last summer. Niata Alexander and Corey Bonner will be representing Troy in the men's and women's 400-meter dash on Friday. At the conclusion of the 400-meter dash, John Webb will take to the track to compete in the 800-meter run. Also being held Friday, the hurdling events will see Garrison Floyd competing in the 100-meter hurdles; with Jovan Brown, Jordan Howell, and Daquan Coleman in the 400-meter hurdles. The preliminary round of the 4x400-meter relay for both the men and women will be held this afternoon, followed by Daniel Glick concluding the Friday events, competing in the steeplechase that evening.

Saturday will be packed with a number of relays in which Troy will take part, beginning with the sprint medley relay in the early afternoon. Following this event, the men's and women's 4x100-meter relays will try to improve their best times against tough opponents followed by the 4x200-meter relay. Zach Douglas will be competing in the invite sections of both the discus and shot put competitions, with Indiya Summerville also competing in the shot put on Saturday afternoon.Â
