Women’s Tennis Splits Conference Opening Weekend

STATEBORO, Ga. – The Troy women's tennis team split the weekend as it fell 4-3 to Georgia State on Saturday, but bounced back and defeated Coastal Carolina 4-2 on Sunday in Statesboro, Ga.
On Saturday, Georgia State earned the early doubles point after winning picking up the first two wins on courts two and three.
In singles play, Efiliya Herlina earned the first win for the Trojans as she defeated her opponent in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Nancy Karaky followed with a 1-6, 7-6, 6-2 three set win of her own. Alicia Rodriguez continued the rally as she defeated her opponent 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 on court five.
With the match tied at 3-3, it came down to the last match, Sanae Ohta on court one. After picking up the win in the first set, Ohta fell in the final two sets to 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 to give the defending conference champions the win.
The Trojans were able to bounce back on Sunday as they defeated Coastal Carolina 4-2. Troy got hot early as they picked up the doubles point after Ohta and Karaky won 6-2 on court one and Jiayuan Xue and Herlina clinched a 6-1 win on court three.
Luisa Ferrauti picked up the first singles win after defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-4 on court six. Ohta followed with a two set 6-2, 6-3 win and Alicia Rodriguez clinched the match for Troy after winning 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. Hannah Seizer was up fell in her first set but bounced back to win the second. She took a 1-0 lead in the final set before the match was called.

"There is nothing better and more exciting than competing against conference teams and playing great weekend of tennis," head coach Rawia Elsisi said. "The girls were highly motivated, and I am very proud of their performance on the court. Today we came back strong after a close hard fought loss yesterday against Georgia State. The girls were mentally tough and wanted the win bad. They took the doubles point which helped us get an early lead and good momentum to get the win against Coastal Carolina."
UP NEXT
The Trojans will travel to Mobile, Ala., on April 8 to continue conference play as they face Georgia Southern.
