Track and Field Starts Outdoor Competition

Meet Information

TROY, Alabama – Troy outdoor track and field is set to begin its 2017 campaign Friday and Saturday at the Jaguar Opener in Mobile. It is the first of two outdoor meets hosted by in-state rival South Alabama.

Coming off impressive postseason performances in 2016, the expectations are even higher for this season.

Jaevyn Wortham qualified for a spot in the NCAA Championships in the discus event after a personal best 52.96-meter throw in the NCAA East Preliminaries. Overall, the Trojans sent seven athletes to the preliminary round in Jacksonville, Fla., last season.

The meet will begin Friday with the men's and women's triple jump and conclude Saturday evening with the 800-meter relay.

PLAYERS TO WATCH
• Jaevyn Wortham looks to follow up last season's championship run as she competes in the discus once again.

• Hakim Montgomery, who had an outstanding indoor season in the 60-meter sprint, looks to carry that momentum to the outdoor season.

• Zach Douglas will compete in throwing events, once again, after he was the lone thrower for the Trojans at the NCAA Prelims in the shot put and discus events.
