TROY, Alabama – The Troy baseball team travels to New Orleans for a three-game series against the UNO Privateers this weekend. First pitch at Maestri Field is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Friday, 12 p.m. Saturday, and 12 p.m. in the finale Sunday.
In last weekend's split with Xavier, the Trojans (2-2) experienced success both on the mound and at the plate.
Troy pitchers combined for 48 strikeouts in 37 innings throughout the four game series – 11.7 strikeouts per nine innings. Corey Childress (0-1) will once again toe the rubber Friday night after he struck out seven batters in just 4.1 innings of work last week. The Trojans will send Evan Hebert (1-0) and Houston Mabray (1-0) to the mound to close out the series Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Hebert allowed just two hits over 5.2 innings with seven strikeouts in his debut, while Mabray did not allow an earned run and pickup up the victory in the series final against Xavier.
Brandon Lockridge, Brody Binder and Chase Smartt led the Trojans at the plate as they combined to go 6-for-10 on Sunday with two homers, two doubles and three RBIs. Lockridge is riding a four-game hitting streak after a 6-for-16 weekend – he had a 16-game streak of the same variety last season.
UNO enters the weekend sitting at a perfect 5-0 on the season following a sweep through the MLB Urban Youth Invitational and mid-week wins over No. 2 LSU and Jackson State. The Privateers are hitting .375 as a club in the early part of the season led by Tristan Clarke's .556 batting average and six extra-base hits.
