Troy Hosts Samford on Wednesday; Date & Location Altered Due to Weather

TROY, Alabama – After splitting its four-game series with defending Big East champion Xavier over the weekend, the Troy baseball team will host Samford on Wednesday at Riddle-Pace Field; first pitch is set for 6 p.m.

The game was originally scheduled to be played on Tuesday at Samford, but was moved due to the threat of rain and unplayable field conditions. The teams will simply swap home dates with Troy now traveling to Samford on March 21. Season ticket holders can use their tickets for the March 21 game against Samford for admission Wednesday night.

Troy (2-2) won games two and four of the series against Xavier behind solid starting pitching performances from Evan Hebert and Houston Mabray. The Troy bullpen combined to allow just one run over eight innings of work in the two wins.

Junior Brody Binder and sophomore Brandon Lockridge led the Trojans at the dish as they combined for nine hits, four doubles, a home run and five RBIs. Chase Smartt ended the weekend on a high note as he went 3-for-3 with a homer in the series finale.

Redshirt-junior Andrew Crane will make his first career start for the Trojans after one inning of relief work over the weekend. Crane, a right-hander, pitched a clean ninth inning with a pair of strikeouts in the season opener.

Samford (2-1) opened the season taking two-of-three from UNC Asheville. The Bulldogs hit five home runs in the series as Ayrton Schafer belted three and Kevin Williams added a pair. Sophomore right-hander Connor Radcliff will get the call on the mound for the Bulldogs; he allowed a run on two hits in an inning of work over the weekend.
