Troy Picks Up Two Big Wins; Moves to 5-2

TROY, Alabama- The Trojans opened up their home season hosting the Trojans Classic. Troy earned key wins against Jacksonville and Longwood to improve to 5-2 on the year, led by Stephanie Snyder and Becca Hartley.
Troy 8, Jacksonville 5
In their first game against the Jacksonville Dolphins, the Trojans picked up an 8-5 win. After a scoreless first inning, senior Becca lead things off for the Trojans with her second three RBI home run of the season to put the Trojans up 3-0.
Jacksonville answered back in the third inning posting two runs to cut the Trojans' lead to one. Another Hartley home run in the fourth gave all the momentum back to the Trojans. A double to left field by freshman Katie Webb and a single from sophomore Stephanie Snyder handed Troy a 6-2 lead.
Troy was able to hold the Dolphins scoreless in the top of the fifth, before a two RBI single from Erica Davis scored Hartley and freshman Grace Mirly. The Trojans headed to the seventh inning with an 8-2 lead, but gave up three runs to the Dolphins before they were able to get out of the inning to end the game.
In the circle, Rachel Rigney Brown earned the start, before handing the game over to Peyton Glover in the fourth, who earned the win and now moves to 1-1 on the season. Brown returned to the circle in the top of the seventh to get out of the jam to end the game.
Troy 5, Longwood 4
In the last game of the night, the Trojans came out on top after defeating Longwood 5-4. After a scoreless first, Longwood got on the board first after a double and single. After scoring another run in the third, the Trojans stepped up to the plate to load the bases. An RBI single from Stephanie Snyder allowed Jordan Gray to score. With bases still loaded Maddie Porter drew a walk to score Hartley, and a passed ball advanced Katie Webb home as Troy took a 3-2 lead.
Longwood was able to bring in one run in the fourth to tie the game at 3-3, but the Trojans answered back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth with another double from Snyder who was also able to score in the inning.
The Troy defense held the Lancers scoreless in the sixth, but allowed another run to score in the top of the seventh to cut Troy's lead to one. The Trojans got out of the inning to take home their second win of the night and start of with a 2-0 home record.
NOTEWORTHY
• In game one against Jacksonville, Hartley had a team high three hits and two home runs. She now has 27 career homers, which is third all-time in the Troy record books.
• Stephanie Snyder leads the team with three doubles on the season, followed by freshman Katie Webb with two.
• Snyder also has a team high batting average (.450) after posting nine hits on 20 at-bats.
QUOTABLE
"I was proud of the fight the team showed in our two games," head coach Beth Mullins said. "It wasn't always pretty, but I think we moved on well after mistakes. We have to clean up some things on defense and continue to have quality at bats the rest of this tournament."
UP NEXT
The Trojans continue hosting the Trojan Classic as they face Longwood and Samford tomorrow at 3 and 5:30 p.m. CT and close out the weekend on Sunday with a game against Jacksonville at 12:30 p.m. CT.
