TROY, Alabama – Troy tied the Sun Belt Conference record for points in a game and set an NCAA record with 81 points in the first half throttling Montevallo, 130-50, in Trojan Arena on Saturday.
The Trojans (5-2) also set a program record with an 80-point margin of victory and posted the seventh-most rebounds in NCAA single-game history with 83 – a total that ranks second in school history behind the 86 Troy recorded against Arkansas State in last season's Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Harriet Winchester's free throw in the fourth quarter gave Troy 125 points breaking the old school mark of 124 set against Chicago State in 1995.
Troy jumped out to a 42-11 lead in the first quarter and then added 39 points in the second quarter to break the previous NCAA record for points in a half set by Long Beach State (80) in 1987. The Trojans first quarter point total was the second-most in NCAA history falling just short of the 45 Central Michigan scored against Oakland in 2015.
Six Trojans scored in double-figures including a game-high 20 from Amanda Mendoza who sank six 3-pointers for the second time this season. Chelsey Gibson finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. Amahni Upshaw turned in 12 rebounds to lead all players.
Troy was 47-of-99 (47.5 percent) from the field and forced 27 turnovers in the game. Montevallo (2-7) was led by Alba Perez with 13 points.
