Men’s Golf Finishes Ninth at Steelwood to Close Fall Season

Final Results
TROY, Alabama – Connor Futrell carded a 1-under 71 thanks to four birdies to lead the Troy men's golf team in Sunday's final round of the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational. The Trojans climbed one spot on the leaderboard into ninth place overall after shooting 12-over on the day.
The 1-under was Futrell's team-leading third round under par this season and tied for his lowest round of the year. He made the turn at even with one birdie and one bogey and stayed that way until a flurry of activity over his final six holes – he had three birdies and a pair of bogeys.
Futrell tied for 20th place and two shots ahead of teammate Jake Tiffin who finished in 26th place at 9-over. Tiffin was 5-over on the day with three birdies in the round, while Calum Masters shot up the leaderboard into a tie for 34th thanks to a 2-over 74.
Ike Alexander had a pair of birdies and shot 78 on the day to tie for 36th place, while Fannar Ingi Steingrimsson tied for 47th after shooting an 8-over on Sunday.
No. 1 Alabama held off a late charged from Kennesaw State to beat the Owls by one stroke for the team title, while South Alabama finished 13 shots back in third place.
Next Up
Troy is done for the fall season and will be back in action Feb. 17-18 at the Gator Invitational.
