Live Scoring
TROY, Alabama – Following a near three-week break, the Troy men's golf team heads south for the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational at the Steelwood Country Club in Loxley, Ala.
It will be the first live action for the Trojans since they finished eighth at the FAMC Intercollegiate at The Grove back on Oct. 8-10. Troy is no stranger to difficult fields this season and Steelwood will be no different with No. 1 Alabama and No. 8 Kentucky leading the 12-team field. Teams will play 36 holes on Saturday and wrap up the event with 18 holes on Sunday.
Junior Calum Masters has led Troy in all three events this season and has turned in top-25 finishes in each of the last two tournaments. Masters carries a 73.89 stroke average into this weekend's event, but is in search of his first under-par round of the season.
First-year head coach Bart Barnes will turn to a trio of freshmen in Ike Alexander, Connor Futrell and Fannar Ingi Steingrimsson along with sophomore Jake Tiffin to fill out the rest of his lineup.
Alexander and Futrell are second and third on the team with a 75.56 and 75.67 stroke average, respectively, and are responsible for all three of Troy's under-par rounds this year. Tiffin made his season debut at The Grove and finished strong with a final round 75, while Ingi Steingrimsson will be making his Troy debut this weekend.
Five of Troy's top six rounds this season have come in the past two tournaments as the young Trojan roster continues to gain experience on the course.
Quotable – Head Coach Bart Barnes
"I felt like we showed some bright spots the last time out. We were tied for third in the field in birdies and that is a really positive sign as we're turning our good shots into birdies, and in some cases eagles. However, we also made plenty of mistakes. We've got to play within ourselves and if we can do that this week, we have a really good chance to play well and put a result up. It was nice to have a little break in the schedule. We used it to step back a little bit, regroup and requalify for spots in the lineup."
T-Time
Troy will play Saturday's 36 holes with Lamar and Southern Miss beginning the shotgun start on holes 13 through 17 at 8:30 a.m.
