Troy Goes Low on Final Day of The Invitational at the Ocean Course
9/13/2016 1:39:00 PM | Golf (M)
KIAWAH ISLAND, South Carolina – Troy fired an even round of 288, tied for the lowest of the day among the 16-team field, to climb two spots on the leaderboard into eighth place on the final day of the season-opening The Invitational at the Ocean Course at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort.
After playing to an average of 73.29 and 73.01 in the first two rounds, the course was decidedly more difficult during Tuesday's final round as it yielded an average round of 75.76 to the field of 92 golfers.
Troy's even round was matched by only Maryland, while Middle Tennessee won the team title despite a round of 6-over on Tuesday and Ole Miss finished second after shooting 7-over on the day. Augusta's Jake Marriott claimed individual medalist honors with an 8-under par 207 over the three rounds.
Cam Norman, who tied for 33rd place overall, carded six birdies on the day and finished his final round at 2-under par to lead the Trojans on Tuesday. Clayton Vannoy narrowly missed out on a top 10 finish as he tied for 11th place after shooting 1-over on the day and 2-under for the tournament.
Luke Moser was poised for a big day as he was 2-under after the first four holes. However, a bogey and a triple-bogey on back-to-back holes pushed him to 2-over. Moser responded with a pair of birdies around a bogey to finish 1-over on the day and tied for 25th place overall.
Jared Bettcher tied for 44th place after shooting an even round of 72 on Tuesday with five birdies, while Calum Masters shot 1-over with a pair of birdies in the final round and finished tied for 63rd overall.
The Trojans return to action Sept. 18-20 at the Intercollegiate at The Grove hosted by Middle Tennessee in College Grove, Tenn.
