4/21/2016 3:35:00 PM | Baseball
TROY, Alabama – The Troy baseball team welcomes Sun Belt foe UT Arlington to Riddle-Pace Field for a three game series beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
Â
Saturday's game is set to begin at 3 p.m., while Sunday's series final is slated for a 12 p.m. first pitch. All three games can be seen live at TroyTrojans.com/watch and heard live at 94.7 WTBF FM or TroyTrojans.com/watch.
Â
Troy (22-16, 8-7 Sun Belt) dropped a hard fought game with Alabama, 3-5 on Tuesday night, after winning a road series the weekend before against Arkansas State.
Â
Over the last five games, Joey Denison has been on a tear. He's batting .320 with two doubles, two home runs, scored six runs and added six RBIs. His overall batting average sits at .292, but his four home runs and 10 doubles are tops on the team.
Â
Trevor Davis is leading the team with 44 hits and 23 RBIs through 38 games. He's batting .299 with nine doubles, two home runs and has a 773 on base plus slugging percentage.
Â
The Trojans starting rotation will feature Lucas Brown, Houston Mabray and Grant Bennett. The same rotation only allowed three runs on 15 hits, only walked five and struck out 11 through 19 innings last weekend against Arkansas State. Bennett led the way with a seven-inning shutout and five strikeouts.
Â
UT Arlington (20-18, 6-9 Sun Belt) has dropped its last three games, after winning its last three. The Mavericks have only won one Sun Belt series; it was their opening series against Arkansas State.
Â
The Mavericks have five players tied with two home runs and have four different players leading the team in batting average, doubles, RBIs and stolen bases. Brady Cox leads the team with a .366 average, Matt McLean leads the team with 12 doubles, Darien McLemore has 30 doubles and RJ Williams has seven stolen bases.
Â
Kadon Simmons, Joel Kuhnel and Jake Wilcox will toe the rubber this weekend for UT Arlington. Simmons will start Friday and has a 7-2 record with a 2.72 ERA through 59.2 innings pitched. Kuhnel has a 1.70 ERA with 32 strikeouts and will throw on Saturday. The Sunday starter, Wilcox, has 18 strikeouts through 34.2 innings pitched.
Â
The fairly new series between Troy and UT Arlington began in 2014. UT Arlington holds a 6-2 all-time series lead and won both series and the two tournament games between the two. The last time the two teams met was last year in the Sun Belt Tournament, hosted by Troy. The Trojans dropped that game, 5-13.
