Trojans Solid in Heptathlon at Louisiana Classic

LAFAYETTE, Louisiana – Paced by Gemma Finch, a trio of Troy women's track & field athletes competed in the heptathlon at the Louisiana Classic hosted by UL Lafayette over the weekend.

Finch finished fifth in the heptathlon, only six points out of fourth place. The freshman from Newbury, England won the 800m with a time of 2:20.28 to score 820 points, while she tied for second in the high jump with a mark of 1.65 meters and placed fifth in the 100m hurdles.

Riley Schwietz finished right behind Finch in sixth place with 4353 total points. Her throw of 35.69 meters in the javelin was the best in the field and netted her 585 points, while her time of 15.63 seconds in the 100m hurdles added 760 points to her tally.

Elizabeth Locklier finished in ninth place in the event with the majority of her points coming in the 100m hurdles (696), the high jump (655) and the 200m dash (614).

The Trojans are back in action March 30-April 2 at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla.
