Men’s Golf Fourth, Vannoy Tied for Fifth Following Day One of AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic

DULUTH, Georgia – Troy senior Clayton Vannoy continued his hot start to the season with a pair of rounds under par to lead the Trojans on day one of the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic at the Berkeley Hills Golf Club on Monday. Vannoy is tied for fifth place overall, while Troy finds itself in fourth place and just five shots out of second.
Vannoy finished the opening two rounds at 5-under par with rounds of 2-under and 3-under; he has now played five of his eight rounds this season under par. He was tied for the best in the field on the par 3 holes as he shot 2-under on the day.
He had four birdies and an eagle during his second trip through the course after opening the day with a pair of birdies in an otherwise clean opening round.
Calem Masters and Cam Norman carded a bunch of birdies on the day and the pair sit tied for 14th place overall at 2-under after two rounds. Norman is tied for second among the field with 12 birdies, while Masters is tied for fourth with 10 birdies.
Luke Moser fired rounds of 72 and 73 with three birdies in each round to sit in a tie for 28th place overall, while Jared Bettcher is tied for 48th place at 4-over. Troy has a pair of freshmen competing as individuals – Sam Prater is tied for 65th place at 8-over, while Jake Tiffin is in 82nd place at 18-over.
No. 25 Ole Miss holds an 11-shot lead over South Florida as the Rebels are 26-under par as a team. Lipscomb is four shots back of South Florida, while Troy is a shot back of Lipscomb and Georgia State is four back of Troy.
Troy will be in the lead group for Tuesday's final round along with Ole Miss, Lipscomb and South Florida. The grouping will tee off beginning at 8:05 a.m. on No. 1.

"We played pretty well today," Troy head coach Matt Terry said. "We made plenty of birdies, but we just need to get rid of the big numbers. We are close to having a really good round."
