Troy Ends Busy Stretch at Southeastern Louisiana

TROY, Alabama – The Troy volleyball team will play its eighth match in 11 days when it travels to take on Southeastern Louisiana on Monday at 12 p.m. at the University Center in Hammond, La.

Troy (5-2) enters Monday on a four-match winning streak that includes a tournament title at its own Trojan Invitational this weekend. Troy defeated CSU Bakersfield, Alabama State and ETSU to win the tournament. The Trojans also won a mid-week contest against UAB last week to start the winning streak.

Darby Griff was named MVP of the Trojan Invitational. The senior recorded 18 total blocks in 11 sets, averaging an outstanding 1.64 blocks per set. Griff also posted 23 kills on the weekend with just two errors for a team-best .457 attack percentage.

On the season, Griff is averaging 1.44 blocks per set to lead the Sun Belt. She is one of three Trojans averaging over 1.00 blocks for a Troy team that leads the Sun Belt with 2.89 blocks per set. The blocking has helped Troy hold opponents to a .135 attack percentage, the second best mark in the league.

Offensively, Troy is hitting .208 as a team this season, led again by Griff at .336. Griff, at exactly 2.00 kills per set, is one of three Trojans averaging at or above 2.00 per set. Blair Winston leads the Trojans with 2.77 kills per set.

Southeastern Louisiana (1-3) is hosting Eastern Washington on Sunday before welcoming Troy to town on Monday. The Lions opened their season last weekend with losses to South Carolina and N.C. State and a win over North Carolina Central. They also lost a mid-week match at Southern Miss.

Troy is 1-5 all-time against Southeastern Louisiana, but the two sides haven't met since 2004. Troy's lone win came in 1995 at a tournament hosted by Louisiana Tech.
