Men’s Golf in Ninth Following Two Rounds of Shoal Creek Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Coming off a victory at the Sun Belt Preview over the weekend, the Troy men's golf team is in ninth place following the opening two rounds of the Shoal Creek Invitational hosted by Graeme McDowell at the Shoal Creek Country Club on Monday.
The Trojans shot a 297 in both rounds and are just seven shots behind Ole Miss and Houston for sixth place.
Jared Bettcher led the Trojans as he finished 1-over on the day after shooting a 1-under 71 in the opening round and a 2-over 74 in the afternoon session. Bettcher, who is tied for 13th place, had five birdies during his first trip through the course and an eagle and a birdie in his second round.
Cam Norman carded a 5-over and sits in a tie for 27th place heading into Tuesday's final round. He had an up-and-down second round with four birdies, an eagle, a pair of double-bogeys and a triple-bogey to go along with three birdies in the opening round.
Six birdies over two rounds by Clayton Vannoy helped the Trojan junior finish 6-over on the day and tied for 34th place. Luke Moser, who finished second at the Sun Belt Preview, is tied for 39th place at 7-over, while Calum Masters is tied for 64th at 16-over.
Host UAB will carry a seven-shot lead over South Carolina, North Florida and College of Charleston into Tuesday's final round. Troy will play with Mississippi State and Houston beginning on the No. 10 tee at 8:24 a.m.
