Troy Soccer Falls in Front of Record Crowd
9/25/2015 10:07:00 PM | Soccer
TROY, Alabama – The Troy soccer team fell to South Alabama, 2-1, in front of 1,365 fans, which broke the attendance record for the second time this season.
Kirsten Rendall scored the only goal for the Trojans (7-3, 0-1 Sun Belt) in the 49th minute to cut the lead to one goal. She served in a free kick from 42 yards out that didn't connect with any Trojan player, but found the back of the net, for her second goal of the season.
"South came out and they were the better team in the first half and we gave them a two-goal lead," Jason Hamilton said. "It doesn't matter how you play after that you're not going to be able to win games. I was extremely proud of the way we played the second half. It was completely opposite from the first half where they were the aggressors."
South Alabama (7-3-1, 1-0 Sun Belt) scored the first goal of the game in the 4th minute on a ball from Charde Hannah that found Chelsea Followwell, who split two defenders and placed it in the right side of the net for the score. The Jaguars took a 2-0 lead when Steffi Hardy scored off a corner kick in the 34th minute.
The Trojans fired five shots with three landing on goal, whereas the Jaguars took 15 shots and landed seven on goal.
Mikki Lewis (5-3) got the start for Troy at goalkeeper and suffered the loss, but had five saves on the night.
The Trojans will travel to Monroe, La., to take on ULM next Friday, October 2, at 3 p.m.
