MONROE, Louisiana – The Troy soccer team picked up its first Sun Belt victory of the season on the road Friday afternoon as they defeated ULM, 1-0, thanks to an early goal by Alissa Jones.
Troy (8-3, 1-1 Sun Belt) fired 14 shots in the game, but none more important than the first that found the back of the net. Chelsey Williams found Jones at the top center of the box, who placed it to the right of the keeper for the goal in the 3rd minute.
"The team is not very happy with their performance," Jason Hamilton said. "We did not execute the game plan that we had set in place and we made it tougher than it needed to be. A positive note is that we started the game strong and thankfully got an early lead. We need to improve going forward to be more successful in the conference."
Mikki Lewis (6-3) had eight saves on the night and earned her fourth shutout this season.
Jones lead all players with six shots, five landing on goal. Williams and Brooke McKee took two shots in the match and three different Trojans took one.
ULM (6-7-1, 0-3 Sun Belt) took 10 shots in the match and landed eight on goal. The Warhawks took nine corner kicks, which is one more than the Trojans.
The Trojans pushed their win streak to eight in a row against the Warhawks.
Troy travels to Lafayette, La., for a match with UL Lafayette on Sunday at 1 p.m.
