Troy Soccer Hosts South Alabama for Kickoff To Rival Week

TROY, Alabama – The Troy soccer team hosts in-state conference rival South Alabama on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Troy Soccer Complex for its first conference game to "Kickoff Rival Week."

The Trojans (7-2) look to defend their 15-match home win streak and are led by Chelsey Williams who has four goals and two assists this season. Two other Trojans have three goals this year in Alissa Jones and Brooke McKee. Jones has two assists and McKee has three.
Payton Donley helps lead a Trojan defense that has only allowed 78 shots all year and leads the Sun Belt in goals allowed with six and with a 0.67 goals against average.
At home this season, the Trojans have outscored their opponents 5-1. Abby Reynolds leads the team with 5 points at home, two goals and one assist. Brittany Yoder has scored two goals at home along with Williams who has two assists at home.
South Alabama (6-2-1) is coming off a 4-0 victory at Southern Miss on Sunday. The Jaguars only two loses have come to South Florida, a team that Troy also lost to and No. 9 Auburn. Ashlynn Jones and Charde Hannah lead the Jaguars with a combined nine goals and two assists.
Both teams are in the Top 100 RPI, with the Jaguars ranked at 47 and the Trojans ranked at 92. South Alabama leads the all-time series over Troy, 6-5-1. The teams played a pair of one-goal games last season, including in the Sun Belt Conference championship game. This will be the first meeting between the two rivals in Troy since the 2013 season.
The first 300 fans will receive a free t-shirt at the gate and the first 200 students will receive free pizza courtesy of SGA. There will be a lip sync battle at halftime for a chance to win an Apple TV and additional prizes.
