Women’s Golf Finishes 11th at Schooner Fall Classic

NORMAN, Oklahoma – The Troy women's golf team finished in 11th place at the season-opening Schooner Fall Classic hosted by Oklahoma at the Belmar Golf Club.
Fátima Fernández Cano led the Trojans in Monday's final round as she shot a 1-under 70 thanks to five birdies on the day. Cano made the turn at 4-under after four birdies on the back nine and finished the tournament tied for 19th place after shooting a 1-over 143.
Playing in her first tournament as a Trojan, junior Gabi Oubre shaved eight strokes off her opening round score to shoot even par on Monday. She had three birdies, an eagle on the par-5 No. 18 and finished tied for 41st place.
A pair of Troy freshmen, Lindsey Harrison and Bianca Lohbauer, closed out their first collegiate tournament tied for 48th and 56th place, respectively. Harrison shot a 9-over 80 with one birdie in her round, while Lohbauer carded a pair of birdies en route to a 5-over 76. Becca Horner rounded out the field for the Trojans in 64th place after shooting a 10-over 81 in the final round.
No. 9 Oklahoma State held off No. 11 Texas A&M by seven shots to win the team title, while Mississippi State, Kansas and Notre Dame rounded out the top five. Seven of the 12 teams in the field competed in the NCAA Regionals a season ago. Kansas' Yupaporn Kawinpakorn claimed individual medalist honors.
Troy returns to the links this weekend at the Chris Bainster Golf Classic hosted by Jacksonville State at the Silver Lakes Golf Course in Glencoe, Ala.
