TROY, Alabama – Troy and Fátima Fernández Cano will look to defend their team and individual Chris Banister Golf Classic titles this weekend at the Robert Trent Jones Silver Lakes Golf Course. The 12-team field will play 18 holes on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
Troy dominated the field last season as the Trojans won the team championship by 16 strokes over Morehead State. Cano claimed individual medalist honors after carding a 1-over 217 over the three rounds.
The Trojans enter the Chris Banister Golf Classic coming off an 11th place finish at the Schooner Fall Classic to open the year. Cano led the Trojans as she tied for 19th place thanks to a 1-under 70 in the second round; the tournament was shortened to two rounds due to weather.
Troy's lineup for The Schooner Fall Classic featured a trio of newcomers in junior transfer Gabi Oubre and a pair of freshmen in Lindsey Harrison and Bianca Lohnauer. Junior Becca Horner joined Cano as the only other returner in the lineup.
Head coach Bart Barnes will send the same group out for the Chris Banister Golf Classic, while Kalyn Hudson, Bria Jansen, Abby Parks and Antonia Poate will all play as individuals. Oubre tied for 41st place after a strong finish as she carded an even par to close out The Schooner Fall Classic, while Harrison started strong with a 2-over 73 en route to a tie for 48th place finish.
