Norman Tied for Second After Two Rounds at The Invitational; Troy Tied for Fourth

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. โ Junior Cam Norman had quite a debut for the Troy men's golf team as he shot a combined 4-under par over the opening two rounds of The Invitational at The Ocean Course on Friday at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort. Norman is tied for second place overall, while the Trojans are tied for fourth.

Norman finished with flurry as he birdied four of his final six holes to finish the second round of the day with a 3-under 69. The Greenville, Ala., carded six birdies in the second round to go along with three in the opening round; his nine birdies are the fourth most in the field.

Troy made a rapid move up the leaderboard over the final few holes of the second round. Norman's four birdies were key to ascent, but Luke Moser and Clayton Vannoy had a pair of big birdies down the stretch as well.

Host College of Charleston leads the 12-team field at 2-over as a team followed by Cincinnati (+6), No. 48 Georgia Southern (+7), Troy (+12) and No 29 UAB (+12). The field includes seven teams who played in an NCAA Regional last year, including No. 42 NC State, who is five shots back of Troy in seventh place. Cincinnati's Jared O'Kelley is the individual leader at 7-under par.

Vannoy is tied for 13th place after shooting rounds of 1-over and 2-over to open the season. The Troy junior finished the day with four birdies and sits just two shots back of a top-10 finish.

Moser, Troy's most consistent player last year, continued his steady play as both of his rounds (77 & 73) counted towards the team score. He sits in a tie for 25th place and is tied for the lead among all players in the field after playing the par 3 holes to a tune of 3-under par.

Jared Bettcher had an up-and-down day with five birdies over the two rounds, but also added five double-bogeys. The Troy junior is tied for 35th place after shooting rounds of 77 and 74 to open The Invitational.

Junior Sean Stone made his Troy debut on Friday and is tied for 77th place, while freshman Calum Masters is tied for 80th place following the first two rounds of his collegiate career.

Troy will be in the first group out Saturday morning along with UAB and Kentucky. The pairing will open on the first hole at 7 a.m. (CDT).
