Â
TROY, Alabama – The Troy volleyball team will play its final non-conference tournament this weekend when it travels to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for three matches at the Crimson-White Tournament, hosted by Alabama at Foster Auditorium.
Â
Troy will take on Alabama at 11 a.m. in its lone match on Friday. The Trojans will then take on Virginia and Saint Louis at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively, on Saturday.
Â
Friday's match against Alabama will be streamed live on the SEC Network +, which airs on WatchESPN. A link to the broadcast, as well as links to live stats for all three matches, can be found on the volleyball schedule page at TroyTrojans.com. Fans can also follow @TroyTrojansVB on Twitter for live, in-game updates.
Â
Troy (5-3) is coming off of a Monday loss at Southeastern Louisiana, but before that had won four straight matches, including a 3-0 mark last weekend at the Trojan Invitational.
Â
The Trojans are led by their frontline that has held opponents to a Sun Belt best .133 attack percentage and also leads the league with 2.84 blocks per set.
Â
Darby Griff, the MVP of last weekend's Trojan Invitational, leads the Sun Belt at 1.45 blocks per set. She is one of three Trojans in the top 10 in that category, joining Sara Lands (1.13) who ranks fifth and Leah Causey (1.03) who ranks eighth.
Â
Offensively, Griff leads the Trojans and ranks seventh in the Sun Belt with a .331 attack percentage. She averages 2.03 kills per set, which is second on the team behind only Blair Winston who averages 2.76 per set.
Â
Alabama (2-5) is hosting its second straight tournament after going 1-3 last weekend with a win over Northwestern State and losses to Tulsa, Southern Miss and College of Charleston. The Crimson Tide went 26-8 last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Â
Virginia (4-1) went 3-0 last weekend at its own tournament, defeating VCU, Appalachian State and Iowa State. The Cavaliers lone loss of the season came on the road at UCLA. Virginia went 17-14 last season and finished sixth in the ACC.
Â
Saint Louis (3-5) is coming off of a home win over Western Illinois on Tuesday. The Billikens hosted their own tournament last weekend as well, beating Arkansas-Pine Bluff but falling to two top 25 teams in BYU and Purdue. Saint Louis went 21-10 last season and finished third in the Atlantic 10.
Â
Saturday's meetings will be the first in Troy's history against both Virginia and Saint Louis. The Trojans are 0-6 all-time against Alabama with the last meeting coming in 2013. However, prior to that match, Troy and Alabama hadn't played each other since 1998.
Â
Following the weekend's three matches, Troy will travel to Mercer on Tuesday before hosting Sun Belt matches next Friday and Saturday against Appalachian State and Arkansas State, respectively.
