Troy Soccer Rallies Late in Come From Behind Win Over Alabama State

MONTGOMERY, Alabama – The Troy soccer team scored back-to-back goals in the final 10 minutes to complete the comeback victory over in-state rival Alabama State, 3-2, on Tuesday night at the ASU Soccer Complex.

Freshman Brooke McKee scored the go-ahead goal, her second of the match, in the 82nd minute and gave the Trojans a 3-2 lead. Just a minute before, Alissa Jones tied the game at two all with her first goal of the season.

"We are hoping that this game is what can get things going in the right direction for us," soccer head coach Jason Hamilton said. "After the performance against Alabama, we had to give other people the opportunity to see if they could give us what we need. We were happy with some of the things we saw."

Troy (2-1) took its first lead of the match in the 23rd minute as McKee scored her first collegiate career goal, in thanks to an assist by Abby Reynolds.

Alabama State (0-2) bounced back to take a 2-1 lead as they scored a pair of goals within three minutes. Ariela Lewis scored the first goal for the Hornets in the 41st minute while Larissa White scored the other in the 43rd minute.

The Trojans had 30 shots in the match with 13 of them landing on goal. Jones led the way for the Trojans with 10 and Reynolds took four. McKee and Marli Batiste each took three shots during the match while Batiste was credited her first career assist.

Troy will return home to the Troy Soccer Complex as it plays host the Trojan Classic beginning Friday. The Trojans will face UT Martin on Friday, August 28, at 7 p.m. and will wrap up the tournament with a match against Louisiana Tech on Sunday, August 30, at 3 p.m.
